We really love the Strawberry Banana Smoothie from Orange Julius. This recipe is very similar to our Orange Julius favourite, but made with simple ingredients you likely already have in your house.

Ingredients

Servings:
2
  • 1 cup milk
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 1/4 tsp almond extract
  • 1 very ripe banana
  • 1 mandarin orange, peeled
  • 8 oz frozen strawberries
  • 1-2 TBSP honey, to taste
  • 1 cup crushed ice

Instructions

  1. 1

Blend the milk, vanilla extract, and almond extract in the blender until smooth and frothy.

  2. 2

Add the banana, mandarin orange, strawberries, and honey and blend until very smooth.

  3. 3

Add the crushed ice and blend for just 15 seconds or so. The goal is not to make it homogenous, but to gently mix it into the drink. Divide between 2 glasses and enjoy!

FAQ

Can I make this strawberry banana orange smoothie ahead of time?+
You can prepare it up to 2 hours ahead and store it in the refrigerator, though it's best enjoyed fresh since the ice will melt and dilute the flavor. For longer storage, freeze the blended mixture (without ice) in an airtight container for up to 3 months and reblend with fresh ice when ready to drink.
What can I substitute for almond extract in this smoothie?+
You can skip it entirely or use 1/4 teaspoon of coconut extract for a tropical twist, or try a pinch of cardamom for a warm spice note. Just remember almond extract is strong, so start with less if using other flavorings.
Why is my smoothie too thick or icy?+
You're likely blending the ice too long or using very hard frozen berries—blend the ice for just 15 seconds as the recipe suggests, or thaw your frozen strawberries slightly before blending. If it's still thick, add more milk a splash at a time until you reach your desired consistency.
Can I use regular milk alternatives like almond milk or oat milk?+
Absolutely! Almond milk works especially well since you're already using almond extract, while oat milk will make it creamier and more filling. Just use the same amount (1 cup) and blend as directed.
