A London Fog has always been one of my favorite drinks, and I think it may actually be my number-one drink to make for myself at home. There's something uniquely comforting about Earl Grey tea, steamed milk, and a touch of sweetness — and this simple Maple London Fog delivers big flavour with almost no effort at all.

My love for Earl Grey and London Fog goes way back. It reminds me of quiet tea moments with my grandma, and later, enjoying different versions in coffee shops around Winnipeg — including a beautiful little deli café on Academy Street. The version I had there inspired this maple variation.

FAQ

Can I make a London Fog latte ahead of time?+
You can brew the tea and syrup mixture up to 2 hours ahead and store it in the fridge, then reheat gently and add freshly steamed milk when you're ready to drink it. However, the milk is best added fresh to maintain the creamy texture and foam.
What can I substitute for Earl Grey tea in this recipe?+
You can use English Breakfast tea for a similar malty flavor, or try Lady Grey for a lighter citrus twist—just adjust the steeping time to 4 minutes to avoid bitterness. If you prefer herbal options, chamomile or lavender tea works well with the maple and vanilla, though the flavor will be noticeably different.
Why is my London Fog latte turning out bitter?+
You're likely over-steeping the tea bag—stick to exactly 4 minutes and remove it promptly to keep the flavor smooth and balanced. Using water that's too hot (past a gentle boil) can also make the tea taste harsh, so let the water cool just slightly before steeping.
Can I make this with non-dairy milk?+
Yes, oat or almond milk steam beautifully and pair nicely with the maple-vanilla flavors—just heat them to the same 75°C (170°F) and froth as you would dairy milk. Barista blends tend to foam best, so look for those if you want that classic creamy top.
